Pro Rodeo Series Adventures

Deep in the heart of the Yampa Valley, the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series isn’t just an event—it’s a living monument to the American West. Voted the PRCA Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year, this series offers an authentic slice of Colorado heritage every Friday and Saturday night throughout the summer.

🤠 The Experience: More Than Just Eight Seconds

The action takes place at the historic Brent Romick Arena, nestled at the foot of Howelsen Hill and just a short walk from downtown Steamboat. Before the dirt starts flying, the gates open for a true western social:

  • The Pre-Game: Starting at 6:00 PM, enjoy live country music and a classic Western BBQ.

  • The Main Event: At 7:30 PM, the lights come up for a fast-paced professional production featuring bull riding, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, and steer wrestling.

  • For the Kids: The rodeo is famously family-friendly, featuring events like the “Calf Scramble” and “Mutton Bustin'” where local youngsters get their own shot at rodeo glory.

📜 A Century of Dust and Glory

While the modern series was formalized in the 1970s (originally as the “Friday Night Jackpot”), Steamboat’s rodeo roots date back to 1898. In the early days, spectators would form a “ring” with their horses—and later their cars—to create an arena in the grass. Today, it remains the most successful weekly rodeo in the United States, proving that in Steamboat, the “Ski Town, USA” moniker shares equal billing with its cowboy soul.

Why it’s special: It is one of the few places in the country where you can spend the morning fly-fishing or mountain biking and the evening watching world-class PRCA athletes compete for national rankings in a downtown setting
